OUR STORY

MyEcoWear.com was born from our effort to live a more sustainable and green lifestyle. In every aspect of our lives we are trying to make choices that will have a more positive impact on the earth, and the people we share this planet with. Of course we wanted to embark on this journey with some style.

MyEcoWear.com clothing will always be made with either used/recycled or American made materials. Our products are hand screen-printed with love in Seattle, WA. Our goal is to bring you a product that you know has been created with the standards of environmental stewardship and sweatshop free production that we all deserve to expect.

THE PRODUCTION PROCESS

We started with a home kit that you buy at a bookstore. We had a lot of fun with that and started playing with some different designs. After a few tries, we came up the the Earth Army logo. We started selling shirts.

Not long after that we decided to step it up a bit and purchased a used 4-color screen printing press from Craigslist. We now do all of the screen printing in our basement. We enjoy the space and each others company while we work. We have it set-up so that the kids are comfortable down there as well.

THE PACKAGING

Every time you purchase one of our products, you're getting a original piece of art. This is not mass market screen printing. Every piece is made with loving care in our basement studio. We use water based inks and it's a long involved process. The garments are all individual. No two are exactly alike or exactly like what you see on the web site.

Every hang-tag is also unique. Each comes with a special gift just for you. A bead or trinket that we've found on our travels or a tiny envelope sealed with a peace sign in wax.

WHAT MAKES US GREEN?

There are some very important differences between water-based, and plastisol inks that we'd like to share with you.

Plastisol inks are the inks that most conventional screen printers use. Plastisol contains PVC and pthalates that are harmful to the environment and are not breathable. Water-based inks are PVC-free and pthalates-free. Water-based inks soak into and become part of the cloth itself, and are both breathable and durable. Water-based inks also have excellent washability, and keep their color wash after wash.

What you get with MyEcoWear is a quality product, that’s handmade with love, and not damaging to the environment. We only use American made products that are sweat shop free. The inks we use are not leaching VC, Phthalates, Organo-Tin Compounds, Heavy metals, PCP or Pesticides into the environment.
